This is
Diamond Lake Creative
Diamond Lake Creative is the reification of a life imagined in decades past. It is more than a physical space or the culmination of people, places, things, experiences, etc., etc. Art, in all matters and in all forms is central to our daily existence. Not art, in any fashion, is secondary. This concept (Diamond Lake Creative), ever-changing, is meant to bring art to everyone, and allow everyone to feel the emotions that only art can elicit. Moreover, at this moment in history, the act of creating that which is instructive in the defense of, and more generally supportive of humanity, is paramount.
Based in the Diamond Lake neighborhood of South Minneapolis, DLC is committed to making this corner of the world a better and more equitable place – environmentally, politically, economically, socially, and via opportunities for teaching, learning, and fostering arts in diverse settings – through images, words, ideas, and acts. It is also, at the most basic level, the home of artworks created by me, Leif.
What I do…

Painting
More often than not, I have no idea what I’m painting when I start. Sometimes, ideas form as I work through a apiece, but not always. Generally speaking, I’m more interested in color, texture, feel, movement, form, a to r to f to 735 to whale cacti and back to r minus 40 and whatnot and so forth and yeah. This is my brain’s way of thinking, doing, being; and if I tried to create, or even conceive something ahead of time, odds are it would end up at least 30 degrees to the left, appearing askance, if not 900 degrees and an orange.

Photography
I used to carry a camera, now I carry a phone. I resisted cell phones until 2015, but the camera technology got to the point that it was qualitatively similar for everyday use & far more convenient than carrying a camera. I take pictures of anything that catches my eye in that way. On occasion, I get lucky with the natural light & shadow of a space, capturing the essence of the subject, rather than just the lines and colors. I don’t often photograph people; when I do, I like to shoot in black and white as it lends itself to the overall mood and doesn’t cause distraction.

Words
Unlike painting and photography, writing words is more of a planned expedition. Insofar as I have a topic in mind and can usually remain within 2 or 3 degrees of said topic while chasing tangents and investigating sidequests. I don’t have a definitive type of writing, much like I don’t have a set number of words or pages or clear thoughts when I begin, I just know I feel like writing about something/someone/some place and I go with it.
